Hello Parents/Guardians of student athletes at Bowman County School District: Below is a list of why it is important that Parents/Guardians and Coaches should never discuss playing time with one another. Parents/Guardians, please encourage your student/athlete to be the best teammate they can be and accept whatever role they are asked to do on their team. This will set up your student/athlete for success as they navigate life in school and eventually in the real world. 1. Boundaries: Establishing clear boundaries between coaches, players, and parents is important. Discussing playing time can lead to conflicts and misunderstandings, compromising the coach's authority. 2. Team Cohesion: Focusing on playing time can create divisions among players. Coaches want to foster a team environment where players support each other, rather than competing for parental approval based on minutes played. 3. Player Development: Coaches are typically focused on the long-term development of players, which may not align with short-term expectations from parents. Discussing playing time could shift the focus from skill improvement and teamwork to individual statistics. 4. Respect for Decisions: Coaches make lineup and playing time decisions based on a variety of factors, including player performance, team strategy, and game situations. When parents interject, it can undermine the coach's decisions and expertise. 5. Encouraging Communication: Instead of having parents approach coaches, it's often more beneficial to encourage players to communicate directly about their concerns regarding playing time. This fosters independence and responsibility. Some students are learning to advocate for themselves at this time & aren’t skilled in approaching coaches about this subject, so parents practice with your student/athlete how to advocate for themselves. If this doesn’t work, please contact the coach & let them know that your student/athlete wants to talk about playing time & ask the coach if they could initiate this conversation with the athlete. 6. Distraction from the Game: Conversations about playing time can distract from the primary goal of the sport, which is to play and enjoy the game. It can lead to pressure on both players and coaches, detracting from the overall experience. 7. Perception of Favoritism: Discussions about playing time can lead to perceptions of favoritism or bias, further complicating team dynamics and morale. In summary, while parental involvement is important in youth sports, our coaches will avoid discussions about playing time to maintain professionalism, promote player development, and ensure a healthy team environment. Parents/Guardians, please respect this to keep team dynamics and morale at a high level. If it isn’t respected school administration may interject consequences. Sincerely, Kirby Baier Interim Superintendent

High School boys basketball played in the championship game tonight vs Dickinson Trinity. The boys shot well in the first quarter and played the titans shot for shot. Trinity in the second quarter out rebounded the Dawgs and took a 9 point lead heading into halftime. Our boys fought back in the third quarter to tie the ball game up. In the final period the Titans again controlled the boards and overpowered our squad. Final score in favor of the titans 62-51. Heads up boys. Lots to learn from this game. Lots of positives as well to take from this tournament.

Round 2 of the Roughrider tournament was tonight at BCHS. Game 1 of the night was Bowman County JV team vs Hettinger/Scranton. Our boys fought hard all game and showed many great things vs the nighthawks. Experience and a great low post presence proved to be too much for our young squad. The nighthawks win by a final score of: 63-53 Be proud boys. You fought hard this tournament. In Varsity action, our bulldogs played the late game in the semi finals vs Beach. The buccaneers came ready to play and caused our team some issues on both sides of the ball. A back and forth battle ensued. Beach in control much of the 2nd half. A late rally by the bulldogs forced the game into OT. In overtime, the bulldogs came out firing from the outside building a lead that Beach just could not overcome. Final score in favor of the dawgs 86-81 Up next for the bulldogs is a championship match vs the Titans from dickinson Trinity. That game will again be the late game on Saturday. Great job boys. It was an entertaining night of basketball.
