REMINDER
Emergency Response Training
On Wednesday, October 15th, our school will partner with local emergency response teams and law enforcement to conduct a live active shooter training at 1:00 p.m. This training has been in planning for the past year and will take place on a non-school day, with student conferences in the morning and professional development in the afternoon.
This emergency training is in coordination with area first responders, Southwest Healthcare and local law enforcement agencies. This is only a drill. There is no emergency.
The purpose of this exercise is to enhance safety protocols and ensure readiness in the event of a real emergency. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we work to keep our school and community safe.

Dear Bowman County School District Families:

As School District Superintendent, I wanted to take a moment to address an incident which occurred earlier this week involving rumored threats of gun violence involving our students. The safety of our students and staff is of utmost importance to me, the School Board and the District as a whole, and I want to assure you that rumors and threats of violence involving our students are taken seriously and promptly addressed.

The District has a comprehensive set of procedures and protocols in place for such situations, and we have been following these procedures and protocols as we investigate this matter. The investigation commenced immediately upon the District being notified of the potential risk. This investigation continues, and because it is pending, no further comment can be made until its completion.

We understand that when there are rumors or threats of violence at our school, parents will naturally and understandably be concerned about the safety of their children and friends and neighbors working within the District. I want to assure you that the District has a robust set of safety policies, procedures and protocols that are currently in place. Some of these procured and protocols include:

- The District has designated a Bowman City Police Officer as a School Resource Officer. This Officer is present at our schools daily, walking the halls, meeting with staff to discuss any concerns, and interacting with our students to establish positive relationships between students and law enforcement.
- District personnel regularly receive education and training on violence prevention, de-escalation and risk/threat identification and response.
- Each school also has a licensed counselor on staff to work through conflict, provide support and be a mental health resource to students and staff alike.

As part of our ongoing investigation into this matter, an immediate risk assessment was performed which included consultation with law enforcement and the Department of Public Instruction. The conclusion of the immediate risk assessment is that there is no evidence of an immediate or heightened threat to our students and staff. While our investigation into this incident continues, out of an abundance of caution and to provide some additional peace of mind to students and parents alike, for the near future the District will be implementing additional safety protocols, including having increased law enforcement presence at our schools. We have asked local law enforcement to be present at the entry doors to our schools during drop-offs, to provide heightened patrols in the immediate vicinity of our school buildings. We are working with our school counselors to develop educational material for our students regarding appropriate communication, conflict resolution and de-escalation strategies.

The District is committed to providing you with additional information and updates as they become available and are permitted by law. I welcome the opportunity to discuss the District’s policies and procedures to provide a safe and engaging environment for our students. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

School Statement to Parents, Students, and Community

Dear Bulldog Family,
Thank you all for your patience and grace while we investigated a few incidents that took place on the school grounds. Last evening our city police were made aware of some reckless driving in the school parking lot and alleged conversations made by one of our students last evening. Our administration, in cooperation with the local police department, is actively investigating these allegations.

As a precaution, we have been implementing additional security measures at school today. These precautions are isolated in nature and should not impact your child’s school day. Please know that the safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority.
If you have any questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact the school office directly.
